Ann's life

The major part of Ann's career was in the Public Sector working for various local authorities in their Treasurer’s Department. She worked for North West Leicestershire District Council for 13 years and Derby City Council for 8 years. Ann took a career change in 1995 when she took early retirement from Local Government and began her own Personal Development Business. She taught at various Further Education colleges, the Adult Education Centre attached to Nottingham University, voluntary organisations throughout Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and also private enterprises running courses in communication and interpersonal skills. Ann joined Babington Community Technology College in 1995 when she started teaching young adults on their vocational sixth form programme (part time). She achieved a Masters Degree in Education in 1997. She subsequently achieved my Qualified Teacher Status. Latterly she was Head of Vocational Curriculum at the College and taught Business Studies and ICT. Ann became a volunteer in 1985 for MIND in North West Leicestershire and was a founder member of the North West Leicestershire Befriending Scheme for Mental Health. She was co-opted on to the Management Committee of North West Leicestershire Council for Voluntary Service (NWLCVS) soon after. She held the role of Company Secretary for a number of years. She was made an Honorary Member of the organisation. Ann was also a volunteer for LAMP (Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project) for over 10 years and held the role of Chair for a number of years.
